Jeff F. - 2015 Dad
"Our son has been a Grasshopper since the 2015 team was founded 3 years ago, and a big part of what’s kept us here is Coach Jamie and the incredible environment he’s built. We deeply value the kind of team Jamie has fostered—one that emphasizes character, resilience, and growth both on and off the field. The mission of the club including fearless play, learning through failure by consistently playing against the best of the best, and learning life lessons through sport has been prevalent throughout our entire time with Jamie as our leader. Jamie spends countless hours developing our kids, the right way, and we couldn’t be prouder of Grasshopper FC and its future."
Kristin. - 2014 Mom
"Our son has been part of the Grasshoppers from the very beginning. Coaches Matt and Jamie have poured their hearts into him and every player on the team—Not only are they exceptional coaches but true mentors who’ve instilled confidence, resilience, and a deep love for the game. Their focus on character, teamwork, and personal growth sets this team apart.
Grasshoppers isn’t just a soccer team—it’s a family, and we’re so grateful to be part of it."
Matt B. - 2016 Dad
"Our experience with Grasshoppers has been outstanding. The coaches are top-notch—knowledgeable, supportive, and truly dedicated to developing each player’s skills. They strike the perfect balance between teaching fundamentals and pushing the kids to grow through competitive, challenging situations. It’s clear they care about both the athletes and their progress, and we’ve seen incredible growth not just in ability, but in confidence and teamwork. Highly recommend for any family looking for a place where young players can really thrive."
Bo C. - 2014 Dad
"As a father of a player who’s been with Grasshoppers FC since day one, it’s been incredible to watch this group grow together over the past four years. The development, the friendships, the consistency — it’s everything you hope for as a parent.”
Nicole B. - 2015 Mom
"Our son joined the Grasshoppers in 2022 after playing rec soccer. As uneducated soccer parents, we did not know what to expect. We were blown away by the skill development and ability to identify each player’s strengths and opportunities in an effort to make them well rounded. This is no cookie-cutter approach…each player is both valued for their individual contribution as well as what they bring to the total team.
Winning was a bonus, only followed by learning, working hard and having fun! The players and their parents have become like a second family to us. The culture built with these Grasshopper teams is truly unmatched and the dedication of our coach-you won’t find it elsewhere! Jamie looks for every opportunity to provide the boys with competition that will challenge them to be their best!"
Dana R. - 2012 & 2014 Mom
"As a family, we have had the privilege of being part of this soccer program for multiple years (both boys & girls). These are an amazing group of coaches that show up with knowledge and passion. They care about the development of each player. Not only are the players physically and technically challenged, but they are also pushed through the mental game. They are taught to fight and not give up, despite the score. Whether a player continues with the game or moves on, I know that these coaches’ influence will have a lasting positive effect on our children to do well in life."
Adam W. - 2017 & 2018 Dad
"As a parent, I am very pleased with our experience with Grasshoppers FC. Our boys’ soccer skills have improved significantly, along with their knowledge and love for the game. The dedicated and supportive coaches have created a positive team dynamic setting them up for success. I would recommend this club to any family looking for a nurturing environment balanced with a high level of play."
Sabrina S. - 2017 Mom
"Coach Ryan and the Grasshoppers organization have had a tremendous impact on our son—not just in developing his skills on the field, but in deepening his love for the game. Coach Ryan blends high-level instruction with a positive, structured environment that motivates our son to improve both as a player and a teammate. We’re incredibly grateful for the dedication and quality of this program."
John R. - 2012 & 2014 Dad
"We couldn't be more thankful for the leadership and soccer discipline of coach Jamie and Matt. We have had the opportunity to have both our son and daughter be significantly developed on their respective teams. Neither Aidan nor Ava would be where they are today, both in terms of players and teammates, if it weren't for the skill and mental development Jamie and Matt have provided over the years. It has been incredible to watch our children's passion for soccer and elite competition increase tremendously since joining their teams."
Kyle H. - Former 2014 & Current 2017 Dad
"Our first-born son, Titus, joined the 2014 Grasshoppers starting at U8. Similar to how the group started, Titus joining the Grasshoppers came from a chance encounter I had with Matt Salmon within the soccer community. We saw Matt and Jamie lovingly welcome Titus to the team as they showed him that they valued him not only as a soccer player, but as a young man. Matt and Jamie created an environment where the boys’ individual skill grew, where the boys were taught how to play the game as a team, and where the boys learned how to compete; most trainings were as competitive or more competitive than the matches and were equally as fun. The coaches taught 1v1 attacking, 1v1 defending, support and overlapping in 2v1s, creating scoring opportunities, scanning, and to have the courage to build out on every possession coming out of the back regardless of the amount of pressure from the opponent.
Based on our observations and the growth Titus experienced with the Grasshoppers, when deciding next steps for our 2017 twins who had experienced a lot of success at the rec level, the Grasshoppers was a no brainer. Knowing Marc D’Auteuil and Lindsey Williams started a 2016 group, we reached out to Marc to see if a 2017 group was going to be started; that is where we were connected with Ryan Miller. The growth Nolan and Sebastian have experienced as soccer players and as young men under Ryan’s direction of the 2017 age group has been amazing. Ryan brings a lot of energy to every training session and match. Further, Ryan shows every player that he cares about them a great deal, beyond being soccer players. Similar to the 2014s, Ryan creates a highly competitive environment in training while the boys seem to understand that their training competitor is not their opponent. Also, similar to the 2014s, every training seems to be more challenging than any 2017 match the boys have played. The boys are challenged in a way that they grow quickly while also gaining confidence.
Further, the sacrifices these men have made to pour into young people and to grow the game of soccer in the greater Columbus area, combined with how they teach the game and the characteristics the players are taught at training, has made our family’s experience with the Grasshoppers first class. We are thankful for the coaches and families in the Grasshoppers community and are excited about the launch of Grasshoppers FC! Let’s go Hoppers!"
